The Upper Pine River Fire Protection District was formed in November 1974 and covers 265 square miles of eastern La Plata County. We are mostly an urban interface fire protection district. We work closely with mutual aid with the forest service and surrounding fire districts. In the year 2006 we had 617 calls. Of this 407 were medical, 90 were fire and the balance were miscellaneous. We have approximately 34 volunteers on our roster and 27 paid staff.
