The success of any organization is in its people. What I have
learned in the short period of time that I have
been here is just how dedicated both the
volunteers and paid staff are in carrying out
the mission of the fire district. The
communities of Bayfield, Vallecito and the 265
square miles served by the District outside
those areas should feel fortunate to have such
great group of people assembled to respond to
calls for emergency service.
The second piece of this organizations success is the support of
the community. That support was clear with the
community approving the $5.2 million dollar bond
issue in May of 2004. Those funds have gone
towards the purchase of stations and equipment
which will ultimately benefit everyone.
Coming in January 2006 your Fire Department will have 24 hour paid
staff on duty at the main station in Bayfield.
This is very important to the community and
surrounding area as response time will be
greatly reduced. One of the roles we will now
perform is the transporting of patients to the
hospital in fire district ambulances. This
enhanced service will get people needing
emergent medical care to that hospital much
quicker. We thank our good friends at Durango
Fire for years of providing transport services
to the area
We have
started many projects that will enhance the
safety of your responders and provide you a
higher level of service. One area that we are
taking a hard look at is our current Insurance
Service Office Protection Class rating. This
number is used to determine premiums for
homeowners and business. We will be working very
hard over the course of this year in
preparation for a re-rating.
Finally, if you have any questions, comments or concerns please do
not hesitate to give us a call or stop by the
office and we will work to resolve any issues or
answer any questions you many.
